Harford County Public Schools is proud to announce that 41 students have been named 2026 Carson Scholars, earning national recognition for academic excellence and commitment to community service. The honorees include 18 first-time scholars and 23 recognized scholars. Recognized scholars are students who earned the distinction in previous years as well.
The Carson Scholars Fund was founded in 1994 by retired Johns Hopkins Pediatric Neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin S. Carson and his wife, Candy, in response to research showing that American students ranked near the bottom among developed nations in science and math. The Fund awards $1,000 college scholarships to students in grades 4 through 11 who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and humanitarian values. Since its founding, the program has awarded more than 12,000 scholarships totaling more than $11.6 million to students across the country.
